All Resumes

Views and Opinions
by David Alan Carter

First up, we have concerns about this company (see what we didn't like), based on issues raised by the third-party site The Better Business Bureau.

That said, let's try to start with some positives. Careers Plus Resumes, or as they are known by their abbreviated web address CPResumes.com, has a slick website and a reasonable price structure. And the company claims that the writers are all CPRWs (Certified Professional Resume Writers). If true, that's good.

The Step-By-Step:

Visit... CPResumes.comChoose either the Resume Writing option if you need a resume built from scratch, or the Resume Editing/Revamp if you have an existing resume that simply needs tweaking. The latter will save you about $50.00. Additional add-on options are available, including cover letter, web resume, LinkedIn profile, and rush delivery.

Place your order, complete their online questionnaire and upload/fax an existing resume, if you have one.

Supposedly, you'll then be contacted by your writer, who will arrange a one-on-one phone consultation to gather more information and get to know you better. If it sound like we're skeptical on that last point, well, read "what we didn't like" below.

Your documents will be crafted and you'll receive a first draft via email within 24-48 hours. If everything is good, download the attachments (Word, PDF and ASCII file formats) and save them to your computer. If revisions are needed, you've got 90 days of free editing.

Here's what we liked:
  • 90-day free revisions.
  • Pricing seems reasonable.
  • Multiple distribution formats at no extra charge.
Here's what we didn't like:
  • Better Business Bureau notes a "pattern of complaints" for this company ranging from typos and grammatical errors in the finished product to resumes not being delivered within the specified time frames. Read the BBB Business Review for the company HERE. It's also worth noting that management has made overtures toward establishing procedures to more effectively resolve customer issues -- also reported by the BBB. That said, we remain concerned.
  • One-on-one phone consultation is not a given. A consultation is promised -- or at least suggested by the little telephone symbol under their script for "How The Process Works." But multiple BBB complaints suggest that simply did not happen.
  • Alleged poor customer service and difficulty dealing with management to resolve concerns are also in the mix of complaints on the BBB's site.
  • Remember that 90-day free revision clause? The one we thought was a positive? Well, we read the fine print located in the "Privacy-Terms" page. Turns out, if the company deems your request for revisions to be a "complete revamp," they may charge you for those revisions.

In summary, while the company has a couple of things going for it -- an easy-to-navigate website, an OK price -- given our concerns over the BBB report and posted complaints, we would advise prospective customers to exercise caution.

As with all of our reviews, this is our opinion--we always advise readers to do their own due diligence. And although we can't give a recommendation, we'll provide a link for those who would like to check out the company for themselves...
